The full Zcash Forum coverage: Hi all, At RPTX LLC we’re building Laurel , a self-custodial Zcash wallet for Android, and we’re looking for 10 to 20 testers to break it and tell us what’s confusing. What it is Testnet only. Test coins (TAZ) only; this build can’t touch real ZEC. Self-custodial. Keys stay on your phone. We can’t see, freeze or recover anything. Shielded by default. Your receiving address is shielded; transparent funds stay public until you tap Shield. Proofs are built on the phone. No account, no analytics. Laurel sends us nothing. Google Play shows us anonymous crash reports from phones that share diagnostics. Others who see something: the lightwalletd server (default testnet.zec.rocks, or your own): your IP, sync requests and transparent addresses; CoinGecko: your IP, only if you turn prices on (off by default); download.z.cash: a one-time 48 MB file, only if you spend from the Sapling pool; optional folder sync (off by default): whoever hosts the folder sees file sizes and times, not contents. Not audited yet, which is one reason it’s testnet only. Open source (MIT): GitHub - rptxsoftware/laurel: Self-custodial Zcash wallet (testnet) · GitHub . Commit 74acc22 is the Play build 0.1.6. What we’d (Zcash vs Monero 2026)

What this actually touches. Privacy-related headlines are exactly when you want self-custody on both sides of a swap: payout to your own wallet, never through accounts. Fresh addresses each time, refund address set before sending — the mechanics don't change with the news cycle. (recovering misdirected funds)

Do this today. Open a quote for the pair you actually care about, lock it fixed, set your payout and refund addresses, and let the chain do the rest. No accounts, no emails, no KYC. (recovering misdirected funds)

Frequently asked questions

Should I change my swap plan because of this news?

Usually the plan stays: fixed rate, fresh addresses, refund set first. The news changes timing, not mechanics — and only timing if it genuinely touches the chain or coin you're moving.

Can I still do this without KYC?

Yes. VeilSwap routes through instant swap pools with no sign-up and no identity checks at signup — larger amounts may trigger provider-side risk scoring, which is why splitting orders works.
